Numerous scientists claim that the climate change in the current times is caused by human activities. The seriousness of the issue is in the fact that the change is taking place so quickly and widely that the ecosystem is unable to deal with it.
When looking at the entire world, the rate of deforestation is extremely fast. According to the UN’s intergovernmental consultative groups concerning climate change, 13 million ha, which is about the size of mainland England, is disappearing every year. The greenhouse gas emission from deforestation makes up about 20% of all greenhouse gas emission. According to data of the World Bank, 1.6 billion people in the world depend on forests for a large part of their livelihood, and 80% of the population of developing countries gets its fruits, vegetables, medicine, and other items from the forest.
Thus, our priority is to restore the role and functions of forest, which is one of the most important tasks in solving environmental issues such as global warming.
There is no other plant that is as big and beautiful as a tree. Although trees provide many benefits,
we may have been planting them because we are entranced by their beauty. As everyone likes trees,
we love the simple and marvelous beauty of trees.
Global warming is causing icebergs to melt, thereby allowing sea levels to rise. In addition, it is also a
cause of severe floods and abnormal changes of weather in various places. The world’s tropical
forests were reduced by 16.9 million ha every year from 1981 to 1990. We need dense forests with
many trees in order to alleviate this.
Trees emit oxygen through photosynthesis. They purify the air by absorbing atmospheric dust,
sulfurous acid gas, and nitrogenous compound, which are harmful to the human body. In downtown
areas, there are about 10 to 40 thousand dust particles in one liter of air, while there are only
couple thousands in forests.
Clear and clean water always flows in forests. The reason is that forests store water and slowly
release it. Deciduous broad-leaved forests can store up to 14 times more water than lands without
trees can. In areas where trees are abundant, 35% of the rain flows to the underground water,
whereas in areas without trees, only 10% turns into underground water.
One of the reasons New York City is the best city to live is because of Central Park. The comfort and
peace that trees provide allow us to rest. Phytoncide, a natural plant scent derived from trees,
improves our health. Trees are indispensable for animals like birds because they are used as nests
and nutritional storehouses.
